"Are you even Indian if you only speak English?"
This is the question my child was asked by a friend at school yesterday. My child's response, "I am American, by birth. I am Indian because my parents were born Indian and we eat Indian food and celebrate Indian festivals and wear Indian clothes sometimes and I am learning Hindi. "
....
Growing up so many people questioned me coz of my "accent" or how I dressed coz it was much more western than the local crowd. I have said it before. I will say it again. There is NO one aspect that defines our heritage.
Do talk to your kids about the same. 🙏🏽👍
Being kind means being accepting of how someone identifies themselves. That's all it takes..
