Wonderful Day Shopping with Bonuses :D

Had a wonderful day today. Just the kind of Sunday that makes you feel alive !! Of course that means lots of shopping was involved. Hehehehee...

Got up early with breakfast in bed, so to speak. :) Had croissant and masala chai and Shub had Cake and Coffee. After a little time on the internet, with Some outing in mind, saw Outlet malls.

Oh !! By the way, today, saw Dance India Dance Finale and Salman won !!! I was rooting for Him and Alisha to win and surprisingly was kind of upset that Alisha didn't win. Salman had been giving variety from his first perfomance what with his first Salsa, then the Tap Dancing, Stunts, Holi Salsa and Masakali which were all superb. He seems to be such a sweet person that your heart goes out to him. But then Alisha had been showing Exponential improvent and she was really rocking by the end of the show, which makes me think that the whole thing was rigged somehow. Anyway, Salman is an all rounder so was fair enough. I just hope to see more of Alisha, Prince, Jay, Rushali on television .

Ok !! Back to our day, got dressed up and went to Prime Outlet Mall, that's 1 hour away from home. Bought Shubham shirts and t shirts, which is just great to do, since it's rare that he convinces himself to Shop. Got decent discounts too, so that was a job well done. Then spent the afternoon at Kings Creek, had lunch at " 2nd Street" which was just great and got added bonuses by the end of the afternoon. So that was again a profitable time well spent. Though discussing the whole experiance and advantages and disdavantages of time sharing vacations was an added bonus as well !!! Knowledge is power after all ...

Then went to Barnes and Noble, had a Frappacino all by myself for the first time ( it was Very hot ) and just loved it. Was on a sugar high by the end of it. Shubham worked on the lappie as I read two Dream Dictionaries and a Self Help book for women. Anddd used by gift card that Sheetal Rajas had kindly gifted me. Got my favorite books Fountainhead, Angels and Demons and Runaway Jury.

On our way back, got membership at the local video store, pretty cheap compared to other options. And now back at home, doing hisaab, blogging and enjoying TINY samosas.

Ma, the back handed compliment I got today from Karan that I write well, and thus he does too, was a really feel good factor of the day !!! Too bad Dad is not well though. Daddyji too suffered stomach upset from the water. India water, too bad I tell you. Makes me worry about us when we visit but hey Bisleri ZINDABAAD !!! :))

ps- Whole day today made up for yesterday, which was not too good, productivity or fun wise :))

Shubham's Birthday Surprise 09

It was a germ of a seed. Cedrick was going to India Saturday morning 30th, so we decided to invite his family and Sasi ( since he's bachelor and alone ) home for dinner Thursday evening.

After Shubham invited, as I sat it occurred to me that this is my chance to surprise him. Cedrick and his family are the only people we know really well here so it wouldn't make sense to have a party without them and with them coming for dinner it was the perfect cover. I spoke to Trace and Ma and then spoke to Emy to get the contact info of Arthur and Deepali. The same day Comcast decided to cut the internet and tv and I was left calling Emy and co ordinating via the phone with everyone. Finished vaccuming and re arranging things in the rooms.

By wednesday morning, the house was clean and after an afternoon break, I started cooking for the day after. Evening, we went to get grocery ( Shubham was surprised about how stumped I was on how much food to get ). By night 11, I had finished the main course and aata for next day. It was bad, as thanks to my haste in finishing eveything, we didn't have proper dinner, specially I was horrified to find that I'd forgotten to get the paneer(it was in the grocery cart itself ) for the makani. Nervousness about the next day ate at me, as I made Bhature for the first time and that everything should go perfect. You never know what goes wrong when you plan such thigns and with such short notice it's even more volatile. I so wondered how the surprise would actually work since they all had pretty much said they'll come at different times ( 2 more people had been added to the invitees ) so when I'd spoken to Emy about the cake and balloons, I casually mentioned how great it would be if everyone could co ordinate and come at the same time. Now, I prayed.

The D day, I got to making desert, the appetizers and the Bhature ( which took me an hour since it's so HARD to belofy them. Ma, I have no idea how to manage to do it !! ) . The funniest was when the Green Olives jar wasn't opening, I freaked out, and went to the Complex Office and asked them if they could please help me as I had a surprise party for my hubby in the evening. They were sweet about it. Afternoon Shub came home for lunch, as he got the paneer on the way.

By 6, I was done putting all finishing touches, and dressed up. Deepali had called in the morning that they'd all come by 6.30 pm and I was now only worried about how to avoid Shubham going down and NOT see the cars as they came in the gate.

When he entered the home, he was shocked to see me all dressed up. I tried convincing him to dress up too, but didn't press too much as I knew later I was going to have to work on the going down and balcony part. Played it very cool , even I say so myself !! :)

They called that they were down . I'd told Him before hand that theis time I'd open from the balcony for a change, and ran to do it, but he came none the less. As he saw ( luckily there were Many cars coming home from work ) , I was Deepali in her car. Hoping an idea would work, I commented , " My god !! So much traffic . " and got him talking about how bad the traffice was these days . As he talked, I drew him into the house by goign from balcony into the hall. Phew !!! Crisis averted !!!

Now he wanted to go down. Ab kya karein ?? I said, " Arre, why you want to go down ?? Now u're old. U can't go down everytime ?? If people come from out of town or someone elder coming toh theek hai but not every Every person na ?? " and he bought it !! Though I could see from his face he thought I was being silly. Then I distracted him by making him take my pics and videos ...

As everyone came to the door, he went and opened it and his face's expression can be seen in the video . The pictures taken during and after were truly great.

Party Highlights -

Everyone admired the bar, as they entered.

Vijay and his wife commented that the house was so nice that they were sorry they hadn't taken it as well.

Deepali, Cedrick, Kay ( arthur's wife ) commented how nice everything was kept and Kay even said that it was sooo very clean and how I managed it. That was truly wonderful to hear.

Arthur kept telling Vijay's wife and me about the many advantages / good parts of being parents. :)) His wife kept contradicting him ( saying she had a good 9 years and that shub and I were living the American Dream and we should enjoy it as much as we can ) but it was all in good fun. Their son is very cute.

Arthu's wife talked about what a bad time they had when their son Oliver was born. His heart beat stopped and he lost weight to 4 pounds which scares her even now which is why she's So protective.

Kay was very curious about Indian Culture. She and Arthur were shocked when Deepali jokingly said PDA was a big no no in our culture. We had to explain later that it's all much better now and our families are very open comparitively.

Everyone loved the food. I was worried when they didn't eat much ( Next time I'm serving dinner immediately, so that no one stuffs themselves on chips and appetizers ) but Everyone took most of it home with them leaving very little for me to take care of. What a relief ??!!! a

They all kept telling me to eat, but it's so hard to after doing all that work !! I just wait for everyone to leave and then relaxing and eating araam se, even if just a little. I so hate getting up while eating !! ouff !!

Everyone was joking about how the bar was so much bigger than the temple, which showed where our priorities lied :)) to which Shub and I said, God is everywhere !! I also said, Glasses need more actual space... hehehehe ... While everyoen was admiring the bar, I commented, I love glasses, he loves drinking - Match made in Heaven :)) lolzzz

I was really worried about stuff breaking thanks to the boys. and the parents were worried about the kids getting hurt but what to do, have to get used to it !!! I cannot imagine living in an empty apartment .... They kept saying i'll need to baby proof the place ... People with stuff, don't have kids kya ??? Sure it must be hard, but nothing is easy is it ??

It was a great evening .... Truly miss our families on such occasions. Wish you all come next year and can stay with us here ...

Was great telling both mommies and daddies about the party and all !!! :D It always increases the experieance when you talk about it.

The next day, ie Friday I was exhausted but Very happy that all went well. Spent the whole day putting togetehr the pics and videos !! Forgot to have lunch as I waited for Shub. By the time he came home, it was 3 and already late. And it was so hot , the poor thing fell asleep immediately. Had to wake him up thanks to a wasp ( wrong about it on my other blog ) and then we drove to Richmond to have dinner at Cha Cha's . Both of us were tired so bahut chid chid ho rahi thi but in the end we had a nice loooong walk and decent meal !!

Today, I finished reading Silent Witness and Shubham has been playing with the balloons, trying different experiments on it. I hated to, but had to throw half of the cake. I mean, who can have that much choclate cake ??? I put away the left over things and now we have to go buy glasses for him. I've been telling him since 3 weeks now to get new glasses but it's SOOOO hard to get him shopping. He's sleeping now since 3 hours, and I just hate to wake him. He rarely sleeps so much , poor thing !!! His brain works over time just like mine... Yesterday he took a LOT of mast videos late in to the night , using different settings giving different effects using only one color or giving ghost effects etc etc etc ... Just love his experiments !!!

Bas, all for now !! More later ...

Memorial Day Weekend 09

Been 5 days. Not much happening. That time, that gets me down and out. Dadaji is no more. End of another era. Been a crazy few days. Am worried about Mom and Dad. And now even Karan coz he has a lot on his plate before his vacation begins, with his exam and his immediate departure for gwalior.

What have we been up to ?? The usual, spent hours at the library and Borders stores. I read magazines, got my next stock from the library, Archies, Chicken Soup and OCD for Idiots. Shubham read about Blog Tempelates and Technical stuff. It's so wonderful that we enjoy the same objects but with different subjects. hehehehee

Then went roaming around to get Glasses for Shubham but since it's the Memorial weekend so seems US people don't need an Opticians. :) So ended up doing grocery. And had pani puri at home .

Went to Buffalo Wild Wings. He'd been raving about the wings there. For a change we thought to get Really spicy and ordered the Spiciest sauce they had ( they have around 12 in increasing order of spice ). It took us an Hour to finish 6 wings and we had a Greatttt time, drinking water, pepsi, bread, onions, fries to get the taste of the spice down. He told me to lick the bland sauce from the cup and when I put my finger in, I got a Spicier shock since I had a cut on that finger and it Burn like Hell .. Lolzzz. Even the waitress was laughing at us and we had a gala time laughing at each other's faces. We missed Ma and Dad that time, since they so crave spicy and we think we've finally got the Ultimate Spice Dish, though will have to figure out a way for Dad to have the spicy sauce without the nonveg :))

We went dancing to a club in downtown. That was good fun as we rocked the floor, after Shub was pumped up enough to come with me. We had a lot of laughs at the expense of the silly people acting funny. Have blogged about it in " Night at Tobacco " , then went to Cedrik's place and had nice cake with them after celebrating Emy's bday and sat and gappe maroed till 1 something. I came home and finished working on my blog and shubham watched " So you think you can dance " Yeah, surprise surprise !! :D For a change he slept earlier that day ...

Then one day between we saw 2, 3 movies. Tale of Desperaux, Forever Young, Terminator, and something else I can't remember.

Today, cooked a new recipe that I got from Emy, turned out pretty good , except the gravy was light since I couldn't put in potato. Evening we had a long walk and then had a little chinese take out !! Whenever I see those white boxes, I think of Karan since he wanted to have those.

Looking forward to start planning for VIshu's wedding. Today, saw our own wedding video early in the morning, with upma and chai and had a new laughs at each other's expense, but got really nostalgic. It'll be 2.5 years by the time it's Vishu's wedding ... Sigh !!!

Saturday was tough as I was under and Shub was an angel as always. Always thank my stars those special days when he just lets me be my tikhi me .... and puts up with it all .... even with me being down with Dadaji's thing and he coming really early and taking me out . Truly my sunshine. Though I really wish he'd clean up his desk. :p Been 3 weeks now and it's such a mess. Finally cleaned it all for him as I thought we might have guests today .... The excuses he comes up with are so cute that I just can't be mad with him for long. hhehehehe. He's an expert at being lazy when it suits him and truth be told, he deserves to be pampered too .. :)

I wrote " Decisions " story day before and started it with Ivory towers and he just can't let it go. Every time he seens clouds the same shade , now says " Ivory " . When I got irritated says, Ebony :)) Silly he is... Then when choclate marks appear on the carpet , which I haven't eaten , he says, I gave you on the futon so it fell on you and then you got up and it fell down and you put yoru foot on it and then rubbed your foot .. lolzzzz. Where as when we ate garlic bread , there was a Need ring around His side of the table and mine was so totally clean :p hhehehehee... Touchwood, we love pulling each other's legs and Usually take things well.

Oh !! We also went for looong walk around Echo lake. The water there was sooo stagnant and area was smelly. Ewwww. But the smell of Raat Rani was heavenly and we felt pretty nice after the walk even though it wasn't a very pleasant area.

Nothing much else to report. I've been Very pre occupied with my blogs, writing and writing. Am getting a few regular followers and I do feel the kind of comments I'm getting is changing. Well, that's that for today ... More later ... Missing home and family.

Mediterranean Meal

Hmmm. Did the laundry in the morning and then exercised and wrote down more recipes. Afternoon did preparations for evening meal.

After Shubham came home, went for a walk around the complex, then a drive to fill petrol during which we talked and teased each other about a phone call I'm supposed to get from someone who wants to re create a fake North Indian Wedding here in Richmond. Lets see how it goes.

The parking lot was re done yesterday and we had a nice time thinking of where to put the car. The lot looks Very pretty and fresh with the black roads and white stripes.

After we reached home, put the potatoes for baking, and cooked the marinated chicken, which took half an hour to 45 minutes.

And then the " Chicken Shawarmas " were ready :D Made " Tabullah " also with it which turned out even better filling. Thus the Arabic Food meal that I'd said was ready to be had. Below Mua, the Chef.

Below you'll see Onions, Tomatoes, Lettuce, Sauce for Dipping, Tabbullah Salad , Chicken Shawarma, Tortillas ( used instead of Pita Bread ), and Diet Fanta.

Was Reallllly yummy. Shubham missed Daddy a lot :)

After the meal, I told Shubham, this Cooking spree I should have done during his bday week. He looked up and said " Well, it's good to practice before hand itself " :))

And then we we had a little dancing.

Hush lil Baby - Lullaby !!

The temperature dropped further yesterday, in the middle of summer it seems. Myself, spent the day catching up on Dance India dance and updating my blogs .

Evening, made Sesame Peanut Noodles and Oriental Chicken. The noodles are an " acquired " taste. Took it a while to adjust to taste but once doen, was quite nice. Oriental chicken is always a pleasure... Then spent the evening, finishing my book, which turned out pretty Good !! I was quite bowled over the twists of the characters and their nature changes.

A lot of the evening, was spent in convincing my hubby dearest to go to sleep on time today atleast, so that he can catch up on his sleep and you should have just seen the various reasons that came up for sleeping later and later. Finally, Eureka !!! Gave him a non technical book to read - the ever reliable Readers Digest and that seemed to do the trick .. :))

Busy Sunday

The temperature dropped suddenly yesterday. Quite pleasant. The kind of day I just love ... with clouds and gentle winds. But Shubhji, won't come out of his khopchas.. Sitting here in one corner, then there, working diligently at his pet projects all day long. His dedication is inspiring.

Just look at him ... Main bol bol ke thak gayi upar baitho , but he so enjoys finding new places :)) Abhi daraana toh kam ho gaya hai. :) I took this pictue chupke se ...

Back to our day, thus inspired, I put on my chef's hat and cook up a storm in the kitchen. Got up at 8 something on a Sunday, which is extremely good. :D Made " Fritatta " for breakfast, which was surprisingly filling.

Then re arranged things, cleaned up a bit, did this and that, and then baked a cake ...

Then got everything ready for making a home made pizza ... and aloo bhaji for lunch at work and then watched " Mentalist ". We just love his quirkiness... Shubham takes a much needed break and by that time the Pizza is ready ...

We have that then put on the movie premier of " Do you know me ?? " which even I don't watch properly. Then I get him to take a permanent break and relax and convince him to watch the movie " Mummy - Tomb of the Dragon Emperor which I've watched the day before and as he watches I doze off to sleep after my long day in the kitchen .. lolzz... The movie - He found it consistent and a good time pass . :D Yayyy !!

Have I mentioned he now has total control over the 2nd bedroom?? It's now his work place / study place / thinking place / exercise place / game place / during break from all above, lying done for 10 minutes place .. heheheheheh

Enchiladas and Long Drive

A nice day today. Got up Really early, read " The Chilli Queen" for a while and then went back to sleep :D Shubham had a realllly late morning after weeks. By the time he got up and dressed I made " Enchiladas ", a mexican dish using a new recipes I got which involves making everything at home - the salsa even. Turned out pretty nice . On a seperate note, FINALLY discovered which parsley is used in Tabulah, our favorite arabic salad. So within the next week there'll be a mediterranean meal :D hehe

In the evening went out for coffee and apple pie and a looooong drive along the country side. Amazing the kind of houses there are. You can see all the American Cliche's like the haunted houses, the really poor ones, the mansions, the houses where they show murders happening in moves, even the Red Barn yards. Saw a lot of ponies, horses, cowes and ducks :) I was really surprised that there were more veterinary services than human ones in the village side. But then figured, that makes sense ofcourse. Since there are more animals than people there ;) hehehe..

On the way back, was getting Really sticky as temperature was 85 degrees. Then the sun roof gave us a scare so went off in search of repairs, which eventually weren't needed. Apparantly, the Car maybe wanted to go for a drive :)) The drive turned into an even longer endless one, as we kind of got lost which had Shubham singing " Hum honge kaamyaab .. " and getting really excited on seeing a railway crossing. :))

We're back home now after a good saturday.

Sigh !!!!

Ofcourse I will be the more talkative of us two ... :D :))

Welcome all who are invited!

The First Post

Today, we are starting our daily diary. This is Our small effort to keep an account of things not to be forgotten by age. The way this would work is daily, usually by the end of the day or during even Shubham or myself will update the blog with the day's highlights and you can enjoy our cherished or silly or adventurous or fun moments with us.

Here, we might also make notes of some anecdotes we remember over time, of times gone by. :)

You may choose to add comments to each day as well.

Well, talking about yesterday -

After our usual day, we went to Chillis, on of our favorite restaurant chains and enjoyed some good food and sweet and sour desserts. Then under much protest from both sides, we decided might as well finish doing our groceries as well. Once home, after unpacking, we had a LOT of laughs watching " Wedding Bloopers " . That had funny clips like people making big boos, giving weird speeches and the cake falling off while cutting .

Day before was Much more interesting as I tried making Palak soup, Baked Spicy Wedges, Lauki ka halwa, stir fry veggies and Chicken salad with home made dressing ... Was literally cooking a storm in the kitchen. :D

Oh ! Yesterday we got the movie Dev D. Heard so much about it. Have yet to see it.

Two weekend's back we'd gone to Kings Dominion. That's a theme park here in Richmond. We had a wonderful time there. Shubham on the rides with Cedric, Sasi and Pravin ( shub's collegues) and me roaming around with Amy and Daniel ( cedric's wife and kid) and seeing the different rides. It was drizzling and sticky but we had good fun. The high point of the day for me was when I won my Winnie the Poor teddy bear in a game :) Yippie ... Will upload pic of it shortly. hehehe

The guys went on the Boat ride, Tornado, The Crypt, Needle point. The Needle point was specially fun to watch the guys's expression as the operator dropped the ride in mid count :)) He went 8 7 6 5 4 and dropped them. They didn't know what hit them. There's a video for that and also for the Crypt which is fun to watch even with the fire and water blowign below. Daniel was scraming his lungs out, angry at his dad for goign without him. We had good fun taking Daniel for rides. He did 7 rides while the older men had done only 3 :)) which Amy and I thoroughly enjoyed telling them again and again. Shubh will add his comments on the below later. Here are few pics.

The Boat Ride taking Shubham upside down.

We all going for White water rafting. Water rides are the ONLY ones I'm brave enough to do. :D

Our pic in front of the Food Place, done up in Jungle style with Warriors.

The Warriors with us .

The Guys on The Crypt ( watch video for viewing pleasure :)) )
